DB submits charge sheet against Shahed in arms case
Police said two witnesses have already testified against Shahed before the court in this case
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday submitted the charge sheet against Regent Hospital owner Shahed Karim alias Mohammad Shahed in an arms case.
Abdul Baten, additional commissioner of DB, confirmed the matter at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre in Dhaka.
"For cases under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act, it is mandatory to submit the charge sheet within 15-day of filing the case. So, we have submitted it today," said Abdul Baten, adding, "We have covered all aspects to support the allegations stated in the case.

"Two witnesses have already given their statements under section 164 before the court against Shahed."
The police official was asked whether they had conducted a ballistic test to specify if the arms recovered from Shahed were used.
"A ballistic test is not relevant here," replied the additional commissioner, adding, "According to Arms Act, if someone possesses a firearm knowingly without license, it is a crime. It does not matter whether the individual had used it or not."
On July 19, the Detective Branch filed two cases with the Uttara West police station under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act after conducting a drive at Shahed Karim's Uttara residence in Dhaka.
During the raid, the DB recovered five bottles of foreign alcohol, 10 bottles of Phensedyl, a pistol and one bullet from his car.
Previously on July 7, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) sealed off Regent Hospital's head office in the capital, and two of the hospital's branches in Uttara and Mirpur, on charges of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and committing other misdeeds.
According to the RAB, Regent Hospital collected samples from at least 10,000 people. Of them, only 4,200 got authentic Covid-19 test certificates and the rest were faked.
