Ex Khulna-2 MP Mizanur Rahman gets 8 years in jail for graft
Judge Muhammad Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense.
A Dhaka court today (30 January) sentenced Mizanur Rahman, former member of parliament for Khulna-2, to eight years in prison for amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Judge Muhammad Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense.
Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, prosecutor for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said the court found Mizanur guilty under two sections of the case, sentencing him to a total of eight years behind bars.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Tk50,000. Failure to pay will result in an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment. The court also ordered the confiscation of Mizanur's illegally acquired assets, valued at Tk1,44,50,989.
According to the prosecution, ACC Director Md Manjur Morshed filed the case against Mizanur on 6 August 2019. Police later submitted a charge sheet on 23 August 2021.
