4 get death sentence, 7 life term in Kushtia double murder
Another convict named Arif Malitha got 10-year imprisonment
A Kushtia court sentenced four persons to death, seven to life term imprisonment and one to 10-year in prison in a double murder case of school teacher Mujibur Rahman and his brother.
Kushtia women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal's justice Munsi Md Moshiur Rahman passed the verdict at 11am on Sunday in presence of nine accused.
The death penalty convicts are Komol Hossain Malitha, hailed from Golapnagar village of Bheramara upazila, Kamrul Pramanik and his brother Sumon Pramanik, and Noyon Sheikh from Fokirabad village of the upazila.
The life sentence convicts are Nazrul Sheikh and his brother Abdur Rahim alias Lalim Sheikh, Mahfuzur Rahman, Hridoy Ali, Somrat Ali Pramanik, Ziaul Islam and his brother Ashraf Malitha. Among them first five are hailed from Fakirabad village and other two from Golapnagar village of Bheramara upazila.
Another convict named Arif Malitha got 10-year imprisonment.
Nine convicts were sent to Kushtia district jail. Court fined eight convicts Tk50,000 or one year in jail.
Three of the convicts, who received death penalty and life term imprisonment are fugitives.
According to case document, the convicts teased a girl, a student of class seven. Her school teacher Mujibur Rahman and his brother Mizanur Rahman protested against the miscreants. So, they killed Mujibur Rahman on the spot and brutally attacked his brother on April 25, 2016. Mizan succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
Son of the school teacher Jaharul Islam filed a case with Veramara police station on April, 26, 2016.
Police pressed the charge sheet against the suspects on May 9, 2017.
