2 killed as stone-laden dump truck hits auto-rickshaw in Kushtia

Two people, including a woman, were killed, and two others were injured when a dump truck carrying stones collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia this morning (31 January).
The accident occurred around 8:30am on the Kushtia-Ishwardi highway, police said.
The deceased were identified as passenger Tania Akter, 30 and the auto-rickshaw driver, whose identity is yet to be confirmed.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the CNG auto-rickshaw was travelling towards Veramara upazila when a stone-laden dump truck, coming from the opposite direction, lost control after its tyre burst and rammed into the vehicle. The impact crushed the auto-rickshaw, killing the driver and a passenger on the spot and leaving two others critically injured.
Locals rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital.
"The bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue. The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which is now in police custody," the OC said.
