5 to hang for kidnapping, killing 4 year old
Child murdered because father could not pay Tk10 lakh ransom
A Dinajpur court has sentenced 5 people, including two brothers, to death for kidnapping and killing a four year old in Ghoraghat under Dinajpur district.
They were sentenced by Judge Sharif Uddin Ahmed of the Dinajpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Wednesday, February 5.
Six people were acquitted in the same case after the charges against them could not be proven.
The five people sentenced to death are: Zillur Rahman and Jewel Islam (both sons of Ahiar Ali of the Kadimnagar area); Kamal Uddin, son of late Abdur Razzak; Mamun Rashid alias Mamun, son of Kamal Uddin; and Ferdous Ali, son of Wazed Ali.
The case file states that on November 11, 2015, the convicts kidnapped the 4 year old named Porsho Saha while he was playing by the temple beside his home.
When the child could not be found after a search, his family alerted the child's father who filed a case accusing 8 people and 4 unnamed people for kidnapping his son.
Police arrested one of the accused, Zillur Rahman, the next day. Based on his confessional statement, police recovered the body of the dead child from a graveyard. One eye of the child had been gouged out.
The child's father mentioned in the case statement that his son had been murdered because he could not pay the Tk10 lakh ransom that the kidnappers had demanded.
Government lawyer Advocate Mehboob Hassan Chowdhury represented the plaintiff and Advocate Saiful Islam was the lawyer for the defendants.
