Ctg court issues arrest warrant for City Group chairman
A Chattogram court has issued an arrest warrant for City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman in a case filed by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) for defying government orders to fortify edible oil with the required levels of vitamin A.
Chattogram's Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam's court- 4 issued the warrant on Thursday.
Public Prosecutor (PP) for BSTI, Advocate Ashraf Khandaker, said BSTI filed a case on 20 October 2019 as it did not find the required level of vitamin A in Teer brand edible oil, produced by City Group.
The court had issued the arrest warrant against the City Group chairman in the case, he added.
He also said BSTI had seized some soybean oil bottles of City Group's Teer brand in a 2019 raid.
Testing the oil, they found the vitamin A level to be quite a bit lower than the level prescribed by the government.
There were also allegations against City Group for not obtaining a trade mark (TM) license from BSTI either.
