CCTV set up in Chief Justice’s courtroom
With Khaleda Zia’s bail hearing postponed to December 12, the administration has taken the measure to prevent any potential chaos
Closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) were set up inside the Chief Justice's courtroom under the supervision of the Supreme Court administration on Monday.
This is the first time CCTVs have been set up inside the higher courts in Bangladesh.
The decision came following the chaos created by pro-BNP lawyers during BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's bail hearing, the Court administration said.

On December 5, the Chief Justice along with five other justices of the Appellate Division left the courtroom and the court had to stop work for three hours due to the chaos.
Later, the pro-BNP lawyers and pro-Awami League lawyers blamed each other for the incident.
With Khaleda Zia's bail hearing postponed to December 12, the administration has taken the measure to prevent any such occurrence again.
Supreme Court Registrar General Ali Akbar said this was carried out to keep the courtroom environment free from unwanted incidents.
With the cameras in place any wrongdoing in the courtroom can be now monitored, he added.
The administration added that CC cameras would be used during important cases in all High Court benches from now on.
