HC dismisses Basir's bail plea
Basir's lawyer said they will again appeal for a bail to a new bench.
The High Court today dismissed the bail petition of Khandaker Enamul Basir, a suspended Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director, in a case filed for allegedly taking bribe from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman.
An HC bench of justices Farid Ahmed and KSM Abdul Mubin dismissed his bail plea as not being pressed.
Basir submitted the bail petition on September 1.
Advocate MM Jamal Hossain and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal stood for Basir while Khurshid Alam Khan was in favor of ACC.
Jamal Hossain said they will again appeal for a bail to a new bench.
On July 22, a team of the anti-graft body arrested Basir six days after the ACC had filed a case against him and suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman over the bribery scandal.
Basir filed a bail plea with a Dhaka court the following day but the court sent him to jail rejecting the plea.
Earlier on June 9, 2019, DIG Mizan, who faced an allegation of amassing illegal wealth, made an allegation to the media that Basir accepted Tk40 lakh in bribe in two phases in exchange for information.
Following the allegation, the ACC initiated a probe against Basir and suspended him on June 19.
