Enamul Haque Shimul, sub-inspector of Motijheel Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court today.
He told the court that since the investigation is still ongoing, the accused should be kept in prison, following which the court sent them to jail.
Previously on September 5, both constable Mamun and his associate Jahidul Islam Jitu were placed on a one-day remand.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) submitted by the victim, Abul Kalam Azad, the accused had snatched Tk10 lakh from him on the day of the incident.
Azad had withdrawn the money from NRBC Bank and was headed to the Mohammedan Club on September 4. Around 3:30pm, constable Mamun and Jitu intercepted him, identifying themselves as policemen, and asked him to get on their motorcycle.
When he refused, the duo hit him on the head with handcuffs and a helmet, injuring him. They then snatched his cash-filled bag and tried to flee the scene.
However, they were chased and caught by passers-by in the area who came to Ajad’s assistance. They later handed the accused over to the Motijheel Police Station.
