Running United Medical College Hospital without approval a 'serious allegation': HC
Hearing today on probe report over Ayaan’s death
After reviewing the investigative report recommending action against two doctors and a hospital in connection with the death of Ayaan Ahmed, a five-year-old who was anesthetised for circumcision at United Medical College Hospital in the capital's Satarkul, the High Court said it is a serious allegation that the hospital is operating without the approval of the authorities.
"Having reviewed the report, I see that United Medical College Hospital at Satarkul is operating without the approval of the Directorate General of Health Services. This is a serious allegation," the HC said.
"During the hearing on this matter tomorrow, we will listen to all aspects. We aim to issue an order that benefits everyone in the country," said the High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury today (28 January).
The committee, which submitted its report to the HC on Sunday, found United Medical College Hospital located at Satarkul "institutionally responsible" for the death of Ayaan.
The committee recommended disciplinary action against two doctors and the hospital and also suggested providing financial compensation to Ayaan's parents.
The hospital had been providing medical services without obtaining the required authorisation or approval from the Directorate General of Health Services, it said.
