Sultan Mansur sent to jail in Jubo Dal leader Shamim murder case
A Dhaka court today sent former lawmaker Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed to jail in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mollah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order as police produced Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed before the court after the end of his five-day remand in the case today and the investigation officer pleaded to keep him behind the bar till completion of the probe.
A Dhaka court on 30 September placed former lawmaker Sultan Mohammad Mansur on a five-day remand in a case, lodged with Paltan police station, over killing Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mollah.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Ragib Nur passed the order as police produced Sultan Mansur before the court and the investigation officer pleaded for placing him on 10-day remand in the case.
Detective Branch (DB) of police detained Sultan Mohammad Mansur from the immigration of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he returned from Canada.
According to the case documents, BNP called a rally in the capital's Naya Paltan area on October 28, 2023. To counter the BNP rally, the then ruling Awami League convened a counter rally on the same day in the capital.
The Awami League men with the support of law enforcing agencies attacked a BNP rally which left Shamim Mollah killed and injured many of its leaders and activists.
The case was filed against 704 people, including AL general secretary Obaidul Quader on 24 September.
