191 businesses fined for price manipulation
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection plans to conduct regular drives to keep prices of essentials stable during Ramadan
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined 191 businesses for not preserving the price list of products and overcharging customers.
Under the direction of Deputy Director Manjur Mohammad Shahriar, the regulatory authority conducted separate drives in 88 retail and wholesale markets across the country on Tuesday and fined the businesses Tk6.36 lakh in total.
Babul Kumar Saha, director general of the regulatory body, said, "We are monitoring all retail and wholesale markets daily to keep prices of all essentials stable during the holy month of Ramadan."
Anyone found trying to manipulate the markets are being brought to book, he added.
Manufacturers, importers, retailers and wholesalers have been asked to preserve the voucher of purchasing prices of the daily essentials. They were also directed to exhibit the price list and sell products according to the fair prices.
