2 dealers sued for embezzling 39 tonnes of rice
Until April, the corruption watchdog filed 15 cases against 20 people
Two dealers of the government's food support programme were sued yesterday for embezzling 39 tonnes of rice in Gaibandha and Patuakhali.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, public relations officer and spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed it to The Business Standard.
Md Alauddin Bosunia, food controller of Fulchhari in Gaibandha, filed a case with the ACC's Rangpur combined district office against Hamidur Rahman, a dealer of Gojaria area of Fulchhari.

According to the case statement, the dealer sold the rice which was allotted against 76 cardholders. He used fake signatures in the datasheet and embezzled 36.480 tonnes of rice.
In Patuakhali, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Arif Hossain filed a case against a dealer named Abdul Hye Sikder on charge of embezzling 2.850 tonnes of rice.
Until April, the antigraft body filed 15 cases against 20 people – six union parishad chairmen, seven members, two secretaries and three open market sale (OMS) dealers. Eleven of the accused have been arrested, and they are in jail now.
