4 arrested in connection with robbery at Gazipur factory

Police have arrested four robbers and recovered Tk74.99 lakh three days after the robbers looted Tk1.5 crore from a Chinese battery factory in Gazipur.
The arrestees were identified as Md Saiful Islam, his wife Selina Begum, Ibrahim Khalil, and the factory' security guard Emdadullah alias Emdad.
Saiful, Selina and Ibrahim hailed from Jamalpur, and Emdad hailed from Chandpur, said Acting Police Commissioner Md Azad Mia during a press conference at the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Headquarter on Thursday morning.
Azad Mia said, "A team of the police led by Assistant Commissioner (Konabari zone) Thoai Aung Pru Marma conducted operations in different areas including Cumilla, Jamalpur and Gazipur under the supervision of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Mohammad Sharifur Rahman."
During the raid, police first detained security guard Emdadullah on September 7. Based on his information, they later arrested Selina Begum from Jamalpur and recovered Tk45.99 lakh of the looted money.
"Later, following the information provided by these two, we arrested Saiful Islam and Ibrahim Khalil with Tk29 lakh cash," said.
Earlier, on September 6 the robbery took place in a battery factory called Chong Thien Re-generation Reforce Company Ltd, owned by Chinese citizen Mi Aung.
The robbers hit the owner of the factory on the head and snatched around Tk1.5 crore and a mobile phone.
The next day, a case was filed in this connection at Kashimpur police station.
Salina Begum has given confessional statements at a Gazipur court on Wednesday.
Police are still conducting drives to arrest the fugitive accomplices and recover the remaining money.
