The robbers were former employees of the building, police say
Two persons were arrested following an attempted robbery in a residential building in Chattogram's Panchlaish area today (4 February).
The building owner, Lokman Hakim, was injured after being stabbed by the robbers.
Lokman is the son-in-law of Abul Khair, head of Abul Khair Group, and former managing director of Eastern Refinery Limited.
The incident occurred this afternoon on the second floor of the building near Al-Hidayah International School.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz, speaking to reporters at the scene, confirmed the two arrests and Lokman's injuries.
He stated that the robbers were former employees of the building and that the investigation is ongoing.
The commissioner also explained that sound grenades were used during the operation to rescue Hakim, who was being held captive in a toilet.
According to police and local sources, one of the robbers had previously worked in the building as a domestic worker. The group of three entered the building around 11am. After hearing screams of the building residents, locals contacted emergency services (999) around noon.
Meanwhile, the local people captured one of the fleeing robbers and handed him over to police.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrived at the scene around 1:15pm, followed by army personnel.
At approximately 2:15pm, a joint operation by police, RAB, and army personnel led to the arrest of the second robber, and the rescue of building owner Hakim, who had been held hostage.
