Casio, RAB conduct drives against counterfeit products
To fight counterfeiting, Casio has started to engrave unique serial numbers on its calculators
Casio, a leading consumer goods brand, is running awareness drives against importers, wholesalers and retailers dealing in counterfeit products.
With the assistance of RAB, the company recently conducted a raid against wholesalers and retailers in Dhaka's Patuatuli Bazar. The enforcement authorities seized large quantities of fake Casio calculators and packaging materials during the raid, read a press release issued on Tuesday.
Some local brands are making undue profits by copying the designs and packaging of popular Casio products under their own brand name and the brand reserves the right to take appropriate legal action against the wrongdoers, the press release notes.
Yoshiyuki Uehara, managing director, Casio India said, "Casio shall continue to run these aggressive campaigns to clean up the market of fake Casio products in order to protect its intellectual property rights, brand image and the interests of customers at large. We want to take this opportunity to thank RAB for this raid action."
In addition to consumers falling prey to unfair practices, damage to brand reputation, sale of counterfeit products also creates revenue loss to the country.
Hence, Casio is running awareness drives via print and digital media, through communication at points of sale, an SMS facility to check authenticity of the original calculators, and various ATL and BTL activities to fight the counterfeit markets in Bangladesh and educate customers by creating awareness about genuine Casio products, the press release adds.
Moreover, to fight counterfeit products, Casio has started to engrave a unique serial number on each of its calculators. The number can be used to verify the authenticity of the product by sending a SMS to +880 4445602222.
