Estranged man, reuniting with family after 26 years, killed by wife, sons over 'property dispute' in Ctg
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) recovered a dismembered body of a man from Chattogram's Patenga area on Saturday (23 September).
According to the police, the deceased Md Hassan – an estranged man who reunited with his family after 26 years – was killed by his wife and sons over a property dispute.
"Hassan's wife Chenwara Begum and eldest son Mostafizur Rahman, who were involved in the murder, are under interrogation. The others involved, his younger son Sofiqur Rahman Jahangir and his wife Anarkali, are absconding. Efforts are on to bring them into custody," said Chattogram PBI Assistant Superintendent of Police AKM Mohiuddin Salim.
He further said Hassan was murdered, in a house where his younger son lives with his wife and children, on the night of 19 September.
"After taking charge of the investigation, we first confirmed Hasan's identity through fingerprints and found out his details. Then we found his younger son's house. After collecting footage of the CCTV cameras around the house, the whole matter became clear to us."
After the murder, his body parts were stuffed in sacks and taken out of the house. Hassan's younger son was seen carrying the sacks. We also came to know that Hassan's wife and eldest son were in the house that night, ASP Salim said.
"Hassan had some land in his name. His sons were pressing him to hand over the properties to them in writing. On 18 September, he was called up from his village Banshkhali to his younger son's house. Later, his wife and elder son went there.
"As he did not agree to transfer the properties, at one stage of an argument, his family members killed him. Later, to hide the evidence of the murder, his younger son dismembered his body and scattered it in different places," the PBI official further said.
