Ex-law minister Anisul Huq placed on 3-day remand in murder case
A Narayanganj court has ordered a three-day remand for former law minister Anisul Huq in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old youth named Ashiq in Sonargaon.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Noor Mohammad Mohsin issued the order this morning (5 February) after police sought a five-day remand for the former minister.
Anisul Huq was named as an accused in the murder case filed at Sonargaon Police Station, said Court Police Inspector Kaiyum Khan.
After his arrest, the police sought his remand, and following a court hearing on both sides, the court granted three days of quizzing for Anisul, the court police said.
Public Prosecutor Abul Kalam Azad Zakir said on 4 August, Ashiq Mia, hailing from Cumilla, was injured by gun shots allegedly fired by Awami League activists on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Kanchpur.
He later succumbed to his injuries on 5 August while undergoing treatment. On 22 August, his mother, Kulsum Begum, filed a murder case at the Sonargaon Police Station.
Earlier at around 9am, when Anisul was brought to the court, the crowd shouted slogans calling him a "thief," and a "fraud."
He was then escorted from the court under tight security.
