RAB arrests Shibir activist who threatened doctor over Sayeedi's death
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested a Shibir activist from Jhenaidah for issuing death threats against a physician who treated convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi before his death at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on August 14.
Tafsirul Islam, 23, was arrested from Jhenaidah's Maheshpur by a joint team of RAB-2 and RAB-6 on Wednesday, the elite force said in a press release.
Dr Mustafa Zaman, a cardiologist at BSMMU, filed a general diary with Dhanmondi Police Station on Tuesday after receiving the death threat over the phone.
He was also threatened from various IDs on social media and filed a general diary in this regard with Dhanmondi Police Station.
According to the RAB, a preliminary investigation revealed that the arrestee is a 2nd-year honours student at a local college.
"He has been an active member of Islami Chhatra Shibir since his school days. He is skilled in IT and used to earn Tk10,000-12,000 per month by doing email marketing."
Tafsirul's father Md Rafiqul Islam is an active Jamaat worker. In 2013-2014, several cases were filed against Rafiqul for creating sabotage in the area and he was jailed in those cases, RAB said.
