RAB seizes counterfeit medicines of Tk20 lakh

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday seized fake and subpar medicines worth Tk20 lakh during a drive in the medicine market near Mitford Hospital in the old Dhaka.
The RAB-led mobile court in assistance with the Directorate General of Drug Administration sealed off a medicine store for selling subpar medicines and jailed its owner Mizanur Rahman for two years.
During the drive, led by executive magistrate Palash Kumar Basu, five other medicine stores were fined with Tk6.5 lakh.
Magistrate Palash said that they were monitoring the market for the last few days as there were unabated selling of counterfeit medicines. Several drives were conducted in the market before, but the illegal trading could not be stopped.

In primary interrogation, Mizanur admitted that some people were supplying this fake medicines to his shop, said the RAB officer.
RAB was trying to trace out people who manufacture and supply these fake and substandard drugs. Drives will also be carried out against them, he added.
