Rice embezzlement: ACC sues UP chairman, member and secretary
According to the case statement, the two accused have embezzled 1,050 kilogrammes of government VGF rice allocated for the poor fishermen amidst the novel coronavirus outbreak
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed three cases against a chairman, three members and a secretary of several union parishads around the country for allegedly embezzling government rice meant for distribution among the poor under the government's social safety net programme.
Assistant Director of ACC Faridpur combined district office Abu Syeed filed the case on Sunday.
ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the news to The Business Standard.
He said the anti-graft body sued Md Shamsuddoha alias Dr Ratan, chairman of Arshinagar union of Sakhipur upazila in Shariatpur, along with a secretary of the union.
According to the case statement, the two accused have embezzled 1,050 kilogrammes of government VGF rice allocated for the poor fishermen amidst the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Sourov Das, deputy assistant director of the same ACC office, filed another case against Ismail Fakir, member of Bashkandi union parishad of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur, accusing him of embezzling 10,260 kilogrammes of rice.
Meanwhile, Tangail office of the ACC filed another case against Md Minhaj Uddin of Jadabpur union parishad in Sokhipur upazila. Razu Md Sarwar Hossain, deputy assistant director of the ACC, filed the case over embezzlement of 510 kilogrammes of rice.
Prior to these three cases, the anti-graft body filed 11 cases against six chairmen, six members and two open market sale dealers over embezzling rice of the government's social safety net programme around the country.
