Security beefed up at police stations in Dhaka
Special security measures have been taken at police stations in the capital on Monday.
Officers-in-Charge of Bangshal, Badda and New Market police stations said additional police have been deployed at the gates installing light machine gun posts following an order from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters.
On condition of anonymity, a police official said, the precaution has been taken apprehending attacks on the police stations as a number of Hefazat leaders and activists were arrested on Monday.
Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh is under pressure after the recent arrest of its several leaders in cases filed over recent attack on law enforcers and vandalism across the country.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion arrested five Hefazat leaders, including Azizul Haque Islamabadi, central organising secretary of the organisation, from Jurain in the capital.
Meanwhile, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Monday submitted its investigation report in the case filed over the death of Hefazat-e-Islam ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi, accusing 43 persons including the organisation's incumbent ameer Junaid Babunagari.
Last week, additional security measures were taken at police outposts and police stations in Sylhet as the Islamist group carried out sabotage at different places all over the country for the past few days.
