Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested six people with snake venom worth Tk75 crore from the capital's Dakshinkhan area early Friday.
The arrestees have been identified as Md Masud Rana, Md Chafir Uddin Shanu, Md Tomjidul Islam (Monir), Md Alamgir Hossain, Firoza Begum and Asma Begum, reports Somoy TV.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-2 conducted a drive at the area and detained them at around 2:00 am, according to the RAB.
The detainees, who are supposedly members of an international snake venom smuggling ring, first refused to disclose any information to the members of the law enforcing agency.
Later RAB searched a bag, which was with the alleged smugglers, and found the snake venom worth around Tk75 crore in a glass jar, according to the report.
The arrestees later confessed that they used to collect snake venom from different areas as there is a huge demand for the venom.
Manuals and CDs on snake venom were also recovered from them.
RAB-2 said the procedure of taking legal action against the arrested persons was underway.
