The ones involved with Abrar’s murder will be expelled: VC
Previously, the protesting students had locked the VC in the administrative building
Vice Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dr Saiful Islam assured the protesting students that the those who are involved with Abrar's murder will be expelled as per the university's rule.
The VC told the students, "I have talked with the Deputy Minister of Education about your demands. We agree to your demands in principles. However, I do not hold all the power. I can agree to those terms that are within my power."
When the students asked him why he did not come to the campus, he said, "I did come to the campus but I was busy with work."
The students then ridiculed the VC with slogans.
They asked the VC why was there police inside the Sher-e-Bangla hall. To this the VC said, "It is not something that is decided by the university authority. It is a matter of police."
The students continued to ridicule him after his answers.
As the VC failed to give any satisfactory answer to the students' queries, he was again put under lock and key in the administrative building.
The students said their next action plan will be decided after a consultation among all the batches.
Now they are observing a candle light procession in front of the main gate of the Buet.
The students took the procession to Sher-E-Bangla hall, where Abrar was murdered. Then they moved to the Buet shahid minar.
Some Buet students also staged a street play that demonstrated how Chhatra League tags other students as Shibir men.
Earlier, the students were chanting 'Amar bhai kobore, VC keno bhetore' which roughly translates into 'My brother is in grave, why is the VC here'.
The protesting students also said that all programmes by the university including admission test will be stopped until the vice chancellor meets them.
"If VC sir wants, we can start a discussion in front of everyone anytime. But if he wants to talks to anyone alone, we will not agree to that."
After a while, the VC came down to talk to the students.
