Two arrested with 55 stolen mobile phones in Ctg
Police arrested two individuals yesterday (23 January) over allegations of possessing 55 stolen mobile phones.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested them last night near an unauthorised mobile shop adjacent to the Ebadat Khana at Sholoshahar Railway Station, said Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station.
The arrestees were identified as Md Rafiq, 46, and his son Md Azgar Ali, 24, both residents of Chattogram's Panchlaish.
According to OC Solaiman, during initial interrogation, the suspects admitted to illegally possessing the stolen mobile phones and revealed that they had been involved in such activities for a long time.
"They confessed to purchasing stolen phones at low prices from various areas in Chattogram, including GEC Circle, Sholoshahar Gate No-2, and Muradpur. The stolen phones were then modified by dismantling parts and altering their software before being resold," he said.
The OC added that a case has been filed against the duo under Sections 411 and 34 of the Penal Code and investigations are underway to identify others who might be involved.
