Two members of human trafficking gang arrested
After taking migrants abroad, they used to collect money from their close relatives in Bangladesh
RAB-8 members on Thursday arrested two people, including a woman, of a human trafficking ring that trafficked people to Libya.
The arrestees are Sentu Sikder, 45, of Lohair village under Muksudpur Police Station in Gopalganj and Nargis Begum, 40, of Jatrabari village in the same district. Sentu Sikder is the brother of Bashir Sikder, one of the leaders of the human trafficking ring, according to RAB-8 headquarters.
Thirty people, including 26 Bangladeshis, were shot dead at Mizda in the Sahara Desert region of Libya on May 26. Another 11 people were injured.

The migrants were held hostage for money in the Libyan city of Mizda. At one stage, the migrant workers got into a fight with the gang. One human trafficker was killed. In retaliation, members of the gang committed the brutal murders.
After the matter came to the notice of RAB-7, they started collecting data of national and international level human traffickers in 11 districts.
While investigating the matter, RAB members found two members of the human trafficking ring, and after confirming their locations, they conducted an operation on Wednesday night and arrested the two members, said ASP Mukur Chakma of Barisal RAB-8.
In preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their being active members of the human trafficking ring. After taking the migrants abroad, their responsibility was to collect money from their close relatives in Bangladesh, Mukur Chakma added.
A case is being filed against the arrested accused and the fugitive accused under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act 2012.
