DoE fines contractor company Tk3 lakh for cutting hills in Chattogram

The Department of the Environment (DoE) has imposed a fine of TK3 lakh on Messrs Majeda Enterprise a contractor company for razing hills to construct a road in Chattogram.

The DoE has evidence against the contractor company of cutting hills to construct a road in Kadalpur area of Raozan upazila in Chattogram.
Mohammad Moazzam Hossain told the business standard, "We fined TK3 lakh to a contractor company named Majeda Enterprise after a hearing on complaint of razing hills to construct a road."
The DoE ordered the company to pay the fine within seven days. Furthermore, the company has given the DoE a signed undertaking on non-judicial stamp paper that it will not cut hills in that area anymore. The company has also been ordered to restore the hill.
Sources from the DoE said that a team from DoE visited Kadalpur after getting a complaint that hills are being cut. The team got evidence supporting the allegation.
