Admission seekers demand reinstatement of previous GPA requirements

A section of admission seekers on Sunday took to the streets in Dhaka demanding reinstatement of the previous Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement for getting admission into public universities.
The protesters – who formed a human chain at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture in Dhaka University's TSC area – also demanded cancellation of the uniform admission test system.

Terming as unreasonable the decision to increase GPA requirement at Dhaka University and other such institutions, the protesters said they will hand over a memorandum to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman in this regard on Monday.
Expressing solidarity with these students, Socialist Students' Front General Secretary Rashed Shahriar said, "We demand that the government reinstate the previous GPA requirement for all public university admission tests.
"The move to increase this requirement will shrink many students' access to higher education."
Students applying from the science group are required to have a minimum combined GPA of 8.5, compared to 8 last year. Applicants from the arts and business studies groups will require a combined GPA of 8, while those applying for fine arts will need at least 7.
In 2020, the combined GPA requirements to apply for admission in business studies and arts faculty were 7.5 and 7 respectively.
