Banglalink offers low-priced internet for university students
University students and teachers will get 30 GB, 15 GB and 10 GB data packs with month-long validity at less than half the regular price
Banglalink, one of the country's mobile phone operators, has signed a MoU with UGC to provide affordable and customised data packs for public and private university students and faculty to smoothly conduct online classes.
Banglalink and the University Grants Commission (UGC) authorities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard at UGC's Agargaon office in the capital on Monday.
According to the MoU, university students will be able to buy month-long 30 GB internet packages for Tk220, whereas the price of the same package for the general public is Tk500. 15 GB and 10 GB packages will also be available under this agreement.
Grameenphone had signed a similar MoU with UGC on 12 November.
On 15 November, Robi and UGC authorities also signed a MoU to provide date pack facilities to the students.
UGC Chairman, Professor Kazi Shahidullah, said, "Digital devices and data are the primary requirements for online academic activities. I hope that with the support of mobile operators, the problem will be solved soon."
Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink, Taimur Rahman, said, his company is committed to providing data facilities for online education to build a new generation.
UGC members Professors Md Alamgir, Dr Md Sazzad Hossain, Biswajit Chanda and Md Abu Taher also spoke at the event among others.
UGC Acting Secretary, Dr Ferdous Jaman; and Enterprise Business Director of Banglalink, Rubaiyat A Tanzeen, were present during the meeting.
