Begum Rokeya University VC rejects UGC report on irregularities
Dipu Moni is not desirable as education minister, he says
Begum Rokeya University Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah on Thursday rejected a University Grants Commission (UGC) probe report that had found evidence of irregularities against him.
Speaking at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Prof Kalimullah said, "The report was prepared under the influence and direction of Education Minister Dipu Moni. It is just an ill political move."
The VC of the Rangpur-based public university also claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had given him verbal permission to stay in Dhaka.

The education ministry in a statement termed Prof Kalimullah's allegations against the education minister as baseless and undesirable. It said the UGC is an independent institution and the ministry or minister has no scope of influencing the UGC's activities.
A UGC probe report recently submitted to the education ministry found evidence of Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah's involvement in multiple irregularities in the construction of Sheikh Hasina Hall and Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute at the Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.
The ministry will not give any statement about the probe report at this time. It will soon hold a meeting on the UGC report.
It added that another probe is underway into allegations of Prof Kalimullah's involvement in administrative corruption.
Prof Kalimullah claimed that he has no connection with any irregularities and termed the probe report as a conspiracy.
"I am the only vice-chancellor who did not receive requests from any quarters centring recruitment of teachers and staff. I even rejected a request from the speaker of Bangladesh Parliament," he said.
