IUB’s on-campus recruitment event connects CSE students to the IT job market
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with JUKTI, the official CSE club, hosted the On-Campus Internship Recruitment Program from 23 to 26 September 2024. Held at the IUB Library, the event aimed to provide students with internship opportunities at top IT firms, with the potential for full-time employment.
A total of 51 CSE students, having completed at least 110 credit hours and an intensive 15-session technical and soft skills training course, participated in interviews with recruiters from nine leading IT companies. These firms offered internship roles, including game, web, front-end, and back-end development positions.
The participating companies were Contessa Solutions and Consultants Limited, mPower Social Enterprises Ltd., Digicon Telecommunication Ltd., STARDUST Telecom Ltd., Brac IT, Bdtask Limited, Creative IT, Genuine Technology, and FunFuse Games LLC.
Mr. Javed Hosein, a Member of the IUB Board of Trustees, commented on the success of the event, noting that the venue aligned with the university's mission. He praised the students' politeness and humility and encouraged them to stay informed about emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. Habib Bin Muzaffar, Acting Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology, and Sciences, emphasized the value of the event, stating that it would not only ease the path to employment for CSE graduates but also strengthen Industry-Academia collaboration.
Dr. Saadia Binte Alam, Associate Professor and Head of the CSE Department, expressed her excitement at the students' engagement with industry leaders. She highlighted the need for students to improve their soft skills and practical knowledge to meet industry standards but was inspired by their willingness to grow.
Students also shared their experiences. Sumaya, a 12th-semester student applying for a full-stack developer role, expressed her eagerness to apply her skills in a real-world environment. Farhan Masud Khan Pathan, another 12th-semester student, described the program as an eye-opening experience that underscored the importance of both technical and soft skills.
Interviewers from the participating companies provided valuable feedback. Hasanul Banna Shifat, Senior Software Engineer at BRAC IT, stressed the importance of mastering the basics and focusing on specialization. Md. Rezaul Hasan, Principal Game Designer at Funfuse Games LLC, encouraged students to focus on practical applications to meet industry standards.
By the end of the event, many students secured internships, and several companies expressed interest in offering full-time positions in the future.
