Textbook fest to continue
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase Wednesday approved 98 organisations to supply the new books
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has impeded the schooling activities, the government wants to celebrate the textbook festival on January 1 next year like the previous years.
Initiatives are on to distribute new books among the first to ninth graders on that day.
As part of the plan, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday approved a proposal of printing, binding and distribution of more than 7 crore books at Tk132.42 crore.
The virtual meeting, led by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, gave the go-ahead.
"We provide students with new books every year amid festivity and fanfare. We will continue this next year too," Kamal told the press after the meeting.
The minister said 1,022 organisations took part in the bidding for book supply. After close scrutiny, 98 organisations who had experience and offered the lowest price have been tasked with printing, binding and distribution of the books.
