UGC urges education ministry to fill vacant key university posts urgently
The commission issued a letter to the senior secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division of the ministry
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the Ministry of Education to take immediate steps for appointing vice-chancellors, pro vice-chancellors and treasurers against vacant posts at the country's universities.
The commission issued a letter to the senior secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division of the ministry on Tuesday in this regard, said a press release of the commission.
Vice-chancellors, Pro-VCs and treasurers play vital roles in carrying out academic and administrative activities in universities.
In the letter, the UGC mentioned that these posts have been lying vacant in a number of public universities of the country. Consequently, academic and administrative activities of these universities are being seriously hampered. Students of these universities are facing problems because of this.
The government is committed to producing skilled and accomplished manpower by establishing at least one university in every district of the country under public-private initiatives for making higher education time-befitting and accessible, said the press release.
