Emergency service 999 receives 2.40 crore calls in 3 years
Now 20,000 calls are received per day on an average
Since its official inauguration on December 12, 2017 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ICT Affairs Adviser and son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, 999 emergency service has received 2.40 crore calls.
Md Abdul Baten, deputy inspector general of police (Rajshahi range), said this while formally handing over three pickups to Bogura Police on Tuesday.
The pickups were given to strengthen the emergency service in Bogura.
This is the first time in Bangladesh that pickup vans have been given to police force to speed up 999 services.
Mohammad Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, superintendent of Bogura Police, other police officials and representatives of civil society were present on the occasion.
An official of Bogura Police said, "Now 20,000 calls are received per day on an average. Of the calls, 77 percent come asking for police services, 12 percent for firefighters and 11 percent for ambulances."
