Ensure security of Japanese nationals, organisations: Ambassador Iwama Kiminori urges Army
Japanese Representative Iwama Kiminori has sought support from the Army in ensuring security of Japanese nationals and their companies in Bangladesh.
He made the statement during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman yesterday (17 September).
According to a statement released by the embassy today (18 September), "After discussing cooperation with the interim government, Ambassador Iwama asked about the current situation regarding the restoration of law and order, and requested that they ensure security for Japanese nationals and provide support for the activities of Japanese nationals and companies in Bangladesh."
"Both parties exchanged views on bilateral defence cooperation including the strengthening of defence relations between the two countries."
Yesterday, the government issued a notification granting commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army executive magistracy power.
The Service of Policy implementation gave the notice under the order of the president. These powers will be in effect for 60 days across the nation from the date they are issued.
