Continuous rain disrupts Barishal, launch services resume on all routes after 24 hours

Due to the low pressure system currently covering the country, the Barishal Division has been experiencing continuous rainfall for more than 36 hours, causing severe hardship for the general public.
Major roads and markets in Barishal city are submerged. However, as there have been no major warnings since Saturday(14 Sep), launch services on all routes, including Barishal-Dhaka and Barishal's internal routes, have resumed.
Akhi Akter, a resident of the Shadhur Bottola area in Barishal's Kaunia, said, "Our small house is right next to the canal. The continuous rain over the past two days has caused the canal water to rise and flood our home. Since this is a slum area, everyone connects their toilet pipes to the canal. Now, the water from the canal has brought all that waste into our homes."

Al Amin, a resident of Amanatganj, stated, "We have been waterlogged for two days. All the roads in the surrounding areas are flooded. Even Barishal's Sadar Road is underwater."
Imran Hossain, a shopkeeper from the Bottola area, added, "Our market is submerged. We have been forced to close our shops. Customers cannot come, and we have to wade through knee-deep water to reach our shops."
Abdur Razzak, a Barishal river port official, mentioned that due to bad weather, small launches on internal routes were halted on Saturday. However, permission has been granted for them to resume today, although the Dhaka-Barishal route launches have been operating daily.
Abdul Kuddus, a senior observer at Barishal Meteorological Office, reported that due to the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, the Barishal river port has been instructed to display the No. 1 warning signal, and Payra sea port has been given the No. 3 warning signal. In the last 24 hours, Barishal has recorded 177 mm of rainfall. The low-pressure system is expected to dissipate by today, and the situation is likely to return to normal by tomorrow.
