Ex-DMP commissioner's personal info leak: Order to suspend GMP ADC Jisanul over involvement withdrawn
Jisanul was suspended on 19 June following allegations of involvement in the Electronic Subscriber Application Form (ESAF) leak of former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia. ESAF typically contains detailed information about a phone subscriber, including name, address, national ID number, and fingerprint
The suspension order for Jisanul Haque, an additional deputy police commissioner (ADC) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), over alleged involvement in leaking former DMP commissioner's personal information, has been withdrawn.
The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) issued a notification yesterday (19 August), signed by Senior Secretary Mohammad Abdul Momen, in this regard.
The notification also stated his suspension period will be considered as active duty, and he is entitled to back pay and allowances according to regulations.
The order, issued in the public interest, is effective immediately.
GMP Commissioner Mahbub Alam confirmed the withdrawal of the suspension order. He said Jisanul Haque has been instructed to rejoin GMP today (20 August).
On 19 June, following allegations of involvement in the leak of personal information of former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, the police headquarters recommended his suspension in a letter sent to the Public Security Division of MoHA.
On 23 June, the discipline branch of the Public Security Division issued a notification of his suspension.
Sources in the police said that Jawad Nirjhar, an expatriate, posted a reaction on Facebook and shared a Telegram link after the publication of Asaduzzaman Mia's illegal assets in the media on 12 June.
The link provided access to Asaduzzaman Mia's ESAF (Electronic Subscriber Application Form), which typically contains detailed information about a phone subscriber, including name, address, national ID number, and fingerprint.
Following this leak, the police headquarters took action to protect Asaduzzaman Mia, who was said to be favoured by Sheikh Hasina's government and instructed a high-level investigation into how his personal information was leaked online.
A deputy commissioner of Gazipur initiated further investigation, and it was found that the leaked information was collected from a surveillance branch of GMP.
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) downloaded it, sources at the police said.
The investigation further revealed that on 13 February, ADC Jisan of Gazipur asked an SI via WhatsApp for information about Asaduzzaman's mobile phone.
Based on this message, another ASI was instructed to download the information, which was then given to the officer.
The form published online matched the downloaded form.
Three individuals, including an ADC Jisan, were accused in this incident.
Following an investigation report by the GMP, a letter was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs recommending action.
Meanwhile, ADC Jisan was temporarily dismissed and transferred to the Rangpur Range.
Following the downfall of Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August due to an uprising by Anti-discrimination Student Movement protesters, the order to dismiss Jisan was withdrawn.
