Ex-secretary Ismail shown arrested in graft case

A court today (24 December) showed former food secretary Islam Hossain arrested in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Vacation Judge Md Ibrahim Miah of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order, allowing the ACC's plea.
Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya of the ACC filed the petition, pleading to show Ismail arrested in the case.
According to the anti-graft body's plea, Ismail abetted former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder in his corruption in the ministry. He is also accused of aiding Majumder in his attempt to conceal the source and destination of his illegal wealth through money laundering.
Earlier on 19 December, the ACC filed the case against Sadhan Chandra Majumder for amassing illegal wealth of Taka25.34 crore and making unusual transactions of Taka43.04 crore through his bank accounts.
Ismail was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 20 December and was later sent to jail after being arrested under section 54.
