Filling station fined Tk10,000 for giving extra fuel!
According to the Weights and Measures Act 2018, both giving less or more than the actual amount is punishable
Weight manipulation is quite common in the country where traders cheat the customers by giving less than the actual amount. But, it is rare where traders provide the customers with more than the amount bought.
Surprisingly, a filling station in Dhaka did this on Wednesday.
But Naj Filling Station in the capital's Jatrabari could not avoid the penalty of Tk10,000 for giving the customers more fuel than the amount bought.
A mobile court of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined the filling station. Magistrate Begum Rashida Akter, who led the mobile court, slapped the fine.
"Their manipulation was peculiar," said an official of the mobile court.
"The filling station had been giving less fuel than the actual amount bought by customers. It tampered the fuel metres after being tipped off about the mobile court visit. The quick fix actually set the meter readings high," said the official.
The mobile court found a unit of the station was supplying an extra 180 millilitres of fuel in every 10 litters.
According to the Weights and Measures Act 2018, both giving less or more than the actual amount is punishable.
Also, the same mobile court fined Cab Express CNG Filling station and Speed Bird Filling Station Tk50,000 each for weight manipulation. The filling stations were providing the customers with less fuel than the actual amount.
Separate cases were filed against the three fuel stations.
