Fire in Lawachara forest under control
About 2 acres of forest land were burnt in the fire
The fire that broke out at Lawachara reserve forest this afternoon has been brought under control.
Kamalganj Fire Service team leader Nurul Islam said the fire was brought under control around 3pm.
According to local sources, some workers were working in the student dormitory part of Lawachara. Suddenly around 12 noon, a fire broke out in that area.
Later, a unit of Kamalganj Fire Service came to the spot and doused the flame.
"I think the workers might have lit cigarettes or someone set fire to the area on purpose. The reason could be known after investigation," Nurul Islam added.
Environmentalist Abdul Ahad, who was present at the scene, said that about 2 acres of forest land were burnt in the fire.
Meanwhile, a two-member committee has been formed to look into the matter. The committee led by Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Mirza Mehdi has been asked to submit a report within two days.
