Five city polls to start from 25 May
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in all the city corporations
The Election Commission (EC) has announced that polls will be held for five city corporations, including Gazipur, Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi, and Sylhet, starting from 25 May.
Jahangir Alam, Secretary to the EC Secretariat, announced the election schedule following a meeting held on Monday.
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in all the city corporations while the voting process will be monitored using closed-circuit television (CCTVs), said Jahangir Alam.
According to the schedule, the Gazipur City Corporation will go to polls on 25 May, with the deadline for submission of nomination papers on 27 April. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on 30 April, and the deadline for withdrawal of nomination is 8 May.
The Khulna and Barishal city corporations will hold voting on 12 June, with the last date for submission of nomination papers being 16 May. The last date for scrutiny of nomination papers is 18 May, and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is 25 May.
Polling for the Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations will be held on 21 June, with the last date for submission of nomination papers being 23 May. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on 25 May, and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is 1 June.
During the city elections, balloting will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break.
The officials of the Election Commission will act as returning officers in the polls, and will provide updates on voting to the commission using their tablet computers.
