Flash flood kills 13-year-old in Cox’s Bazar
Two other minors, who were with the victim, managed to survive by swimming away.
A 13-year-old was killed in a flash flood caused by a sudden rush of water from upstream in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar at around 11:00am today (23 August).
The victim has been identified as Md Habib, son of Md Jasim Uddin, Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali told The Business Standard.
The incident took place near Ward-7 of Boroitoli union of the Chakaria upazila, he also said, adding that two other minors, who were with the victim, managed to survive by swimming away.
Boroitoli Union Parishad Chairman Md Saelkuzzaman said heavy rainfall has caused a heavy rush of upstream waters in the area, flooding roads and establishments.
The three children were heading towards the local Pohorchanda market when the rush of water suddenly swept them away, stated Salekuzzaman.
"While two of them managed to survive, Habib couldn't. He drowned in the water." added the Boroitoli chairman.
Habib's body was later recovered by locals.
An unnatural death case has been filed over the death of the child, Chakaria OC Mohammad Ali said.
