Former driver behind attempt on Dr Sarwar’s life
Miscreants attacked Dr Sarwar and three of his family members at his Uttara residence on Sunday night
The police are working on unraveling the mystery behind the attempt to kill Liberation War Museum Trustee Dr Sarwar Ali. Clues found in a mobile phone point the finger at his former driver.
After analysing residence security guard Hassan's mobile phone, law enforcers found that he had talked with Dr Sarwar's former driver Nazmul at least 30 times on Sunday, said police sources, adding that Nazmul had recently given the phone to Hassan.
Miscreants attacked Dr Sarwar and three of his family members at his Uttara residence the same night. Meanwhile, the police arrested the security guard on Monday.

"The attack on Dr Sarwar was planned, and it was carried out either to kill him or to rob his residence. His former driver is involved with this plot," said Uttara pashchim police station Officer-in-Charge Topon Chandra Saha.
Meanwhile, Dr Sarwar Ali, speaking to The Business Standard, said, "A militant group might have targeted me and carried out the attack. The police are investigating the matter. I believe that the police will unearth the mystery and arrest those responsible.
"My former driver Nazmul could have been involved in the attack, but I don't know but why. He worked as my driver a few months ago. However, we sacked him for insubordination. I cannot believe that Nazmul would try to kill me in revenge."
Describing the attack, Dr Sarwar said, "Two miscreants knocked on my door on Sunday. When I opened the door, they entered my flat and attacked me. One of the attackers was standing outside the door, while four or five others were positioned outside the building."
According to police sources, the culprits attempted to kill Dr Sarwar, his wife Makhduma Nargis, daughter Sayma Ali and son-in-law Humayun Kabir. The attackers also stabbed two of his neighbors who came to save them.
The culprits made good their escape once his neighbours were alerted by the commotion.
Police later arrived at the scene and recovered seven machetes, a mobile phone set, an electric water heater, chemical spray and synthetic rope from the spot, left behind by the attackers.
Sarwar filed a case with Uttara pashchim police station on Monday, naming two attackers and four or five unidentified people as accused. Police arrested the security guard of the building in connection with the attack the same day.
