HC acquits 4 convicted engineers over 3-year-old Jahid’s death
On February 26, 2017, the Fifth Special Judge's Court in Dhaka sentenced the four men to 10 years in prison
The High Court has acquitted four engineers convicted of the 2014 death of three-year-old Jihad in Shahjahanpur of the capital.
They are Jahangir Alam, senior deputy assistant engineer of the project director railway, Abdus Salam alias Shafiqul Islam, owner of contractor company JSR, Nasir Uddin, assistant engineer of Kamalapur Railway Station and electrical engineer Jafar Ahmed Shaki.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Ruhul Kuddus and ASM Abdul Mobin announced the verdict on Wednesday.

Senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, and lawyers SM Shahjahan, M Sarwar Ahmed, Anwarul Islam Shaheen and M Ali Mortaza represented the accused.
Deputy Attorney General Md Aminul Islam stood for the state.
On February 26, 2017, the Fifth Special Judge's Court in Dhaka sentenced the four men to 10 years in prison. They were fined Tk2 lakh each and, in default, were sentenced to two more years.
Also, two other accused were acquitted as the allegations against them were not proved. They are Assistant Engineer of Kamalapur Railway Station Deepak Kumar Bhumik and Assistant Engineer Saiful Islam.
Later, the four convicts appealed to the High Court.
On December 26, 2014, Jihad fell into the pipe of an abandoned deep tube-well while playing with his friends in the Railway Colony in Shahjahanpur. His unconscious body was pulled out after nearly 23 hours.
He was then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
