HC Justice Shahed Nuruddin resigns amid ongoing investigation
High Court Justice Shahed Nuruddin, who is currently being investigated by the Supreme Judicial Council, has resigned.
He sent his resignation letter to the president through Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, the Supreme Court administration officials confirmed today (30 January).
Justice Nuruddin was the judge in the case filed over the 21 August grenade attack of 2004.
Earlier on 16 October last year, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed placed 12 High Court judges, appointed during the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League rule, on leave. Justice Shahed Nuruddin was among the 12 judges.
According to the Supreme Court administration sources, there are allegations of corruption and irregularities against the 12 judges.
The decision followed a demonstration today by students from public and private universities under the banner of Anti-discrimination Student Movement, who laid siege to the High Court this morning demanding the judges' resignation by 2pm on 16 October.
