Woman dies at CMCH, family alleges negligence of doctors
Alongside the mental illness, the patient has been suffering from different complications, including anemia, Dr Panchanan said refuting the allegation
A woman died at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Sunday due to negligence of doctors, her family alleged.
Shamima Akter, wife of Arif, has been undergoing treatment at the mental health ward for the last 10 days due to mental problems.
She was tied up with a rope as her condition deteriorated five days ago, the family said.
"Several medicines, injections were given to the patient since the last three days. Despite our several requests, doctors did not attend her," patient's husband Arif alleged.
At last, Shamima breathed her last at the hospital today, he added.
"When we complained of death due to negligence of doctors, they, with help of on duty Ansar men, forced us to move the dead body quickly," Arif also said.
Refuting the allegation, Dr Panchanan Acharya of the mental health ward said, "Alongside the mental illness, the patient has been suffering from different health complications including anemia. Several tests were also performed."
"Her condition suddenly worsened in the morning and died. Initially, we assumed that the food particles may have gone into the patient's lungs while feeding," Dr Panchanan said.
