‘Hizb ut-Tahrir member’ held in Dhaka
A team of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) team, in a drive, has arrested a suspected member of the banned militant organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka's Mohakhali area.
The arrestee is Abiaz Ahmed Sarker alias Ratul, 28, hailing from South Mohakhali in the Gulshan area and a student of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS).
On secret information, the ATU team conducted a drive in the area around 11:30 pm on Monday and arrested Ratul, said a press release.
The arrestee, alongside other members, had been involved in conducting publicity for Hizb ut-Tahrir by distributing leaflets and posters on the occasion of the online conference of the organisation in October 2020.
Moreover, he had been conspiring against the state to establish a caliphate in the country by overthrowing the present democratic government, the release read.
Ratul is also a fugitive accused in a case filed with Bhatara Police Station.
Police will take further legal actions against him, the release added.
