Human Rights Commission to file writ to ensure treatment for all patients
The commission condemned the incidents of patients’ deaths, including those of Rebeka Sultana and additional secretary Gaoutom Aiche after being denied treatment in several hospitals
National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh has decided to file writ petition to ensure treatment of Covid-19 patients and patients suffering from other diseases amid several incidents of denial of treatment.
The commission made the decision during an online meeting over operating its regular activities during the ongoing general holidays put in force to stem the Covid-19 spread in the country, said a press release today.
The attendees of the meeting discussed media reports of harassment of people while expecting treatment in various hospitals.

They termed as violation of human rights the irresponsibility and indifference of some medical institutions and physicians in providing treatment of patients suffering from other diseases in spite of government instructions and repeated recommendations from the commission.
The meeting also discussed the rise in repression against women and children, violation of human rights by the members of law enforcement agencies and administrations and the commission's steps regarding matters, distribution of relief among Dalits and transgender people.
