IGP expresses satisfaction over Holey Artisan verdict
An appeal will be filed against the acquittal of accused Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary has expressed satisfaction over the verdict that sentenced seven militants to death in Holey Artisan Café attack case.
"We will appeal to the High Court against the acquittal of accused Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan," he said at Police headquarters when journalists wanted to know his reaction regarding the verdict.
The Anti-Terrorism Tribunal today sentenced seven people to death over the gruesome Holey Artisan attack in Dhaka's Gulshan that took place three years ago.
The death convicts are - Rakibul Hasan Rigan, Jahangir Hossain, Abdus Sabur Khan, Hadisur Rahman, Shariful Islam Khaled, Mamumur Rashid Ripon and Aslam Hossain.
Meanwhile, another accused Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan has been acquitted.
On July 1, 2016, five heavily-armed militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka's Gulshan diplomatic zone at around 9pm.
Nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Bangladesh-born US citizen were found slaughtered inside the bakery.
