Indian media spreading propaganda about interim govt: Home advisor
seek your (Bangladeshi journalists) cooperation to prevent Indian media from spreading false reports, he says
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has accused Indian media of "regularly spreading false propaganda" about the interim government.
Speaking to journalists at the Barishal Police Lines today (14 November), the adviser said, "They [India] are broadcasting false news every day about us [interim government]. I seek your [Bangladeshi journalists] cooperation to prevent Indian media from spreading false reports."
Mentioning the government will certainly protest any false propaganda, he said, "If you [journalists] come across any mistakes or corruption within our government, feel free to highlight them. However, refrain from publishing false reports."
Jahangir Alam further said everyone knows that many Indian journalists spread false news. As a result, when India publishes a true report, people start questioning its credibility.
"The strongest opposition to this can come from you [Bangladeshi journalists], as you have greater influence than we do," he added.
Regarding the Sagar-Runi murder case, the home adviser assured, "This time, there will definitely be a resolution. A six-month period has been allocated for this. A new team has been formed under the guidance of the IGP. We will have positive news soon."
Earlier, during a meeting with law enforcement agencies, the adviser said there was a crisis of trust within the police force, noting that it would take time to fully resolve. "However, there has been some improvement, and more progress is expected."
He further said, "If there is silent extortion in any area, the relevant SP, police commissioner, or DIG should be informed. If no action is taken, inform me or the IGP. If they fail to take action, we will take measures against the SP, police commissioner, and DIG."
